Yours truly never finished his undergraduate research thesis. The reason? He got lost looking at some ill-trodden cornel of the Ecole Polytechnique.

What I mean is this: He got stuck in the web of theorems and French language-only manuscripts that is Alexander Grothendieck. A good web, mind you: Grothendieck was an incredibly talented mathematician whose wonderful contributions to algebraic geometry are matched only by the apparent craziness of his last few decades of life. But he got stuck.

Act I begins with me, the researcher, attempting to become unstuck. That’s all for now.
